Okay, this one is a mainstream open-world racing game made for casual players who just want to have some arcade fun.
But the nice thing is, you can completely ignore the racing for a while and just go offroading using all kinds of real-life trucks, SUVs, and other offroad vehicles.
And yeah, the physics aren’t exactly realistic, so don’t expect anything close to SnowRunner.
But if you care more about exploring a huge open world, climbing hills, and pretending you’re offroading in cars you can’t afford in real life, this one is a lot of fun.
#24. over the hill

Alright, this is an offroading game releasing very soon, and honestly, it’s already one of the most hyped driving games right now.
And as you can see, it has this clean, colorful, almost miniature-looking style that makes exploring the wilderness feel super chill.
Oh, and if that art style looks familiar, it’s because this is coming from the same guys behind the famous rally game art of rally.
Anyway, gameplay-wise, you’ll be driving classic 4x4s through mountains, valleys, and rough trails.
So yeah, basically, this looks like the lighter, more relaxing version of SnowRunner.
#23. TrophyRC

So, this is probably the game I’m most hyped about, mostly because it kinda fulfills my childhood fantasy of driving an RC car around the yard like it’s some serious offroad machine.
And what makes it really interesting is that the physics are actually trying to simulate real RC cars, not real-life Jeeps or trucks. Oh, and if they also include a custom track feature, this would be perfect.
Anyway, apparently, the first version could be coming later this year. So yeah, I’d definitely keep an eye on this one. It looks worth the wait.
#22. OVERPASS 2

Look, this is a pretty technical offroad and rock crawling game that I think gets overlooked way too often.
And yeah, I kinda get why. The vehicle movement can look really bad sometimes, with cars bouncing around like they weigh about 50 pounds, which makes everything feel weirdly floaty.
But if you can look past that, the technical offroading is quite fun.
I mean, you’re constantly dealing with rocks, steep climbs, logs, traction, and awkward terrain where throttle control actually matters.
So yeah, if you’re the target audience, then maybe check this one out.
#21. 4×4 in a Furniture Store

Now, this upcoming technical offroading and crawling game also looks surprisingly promising.
I mean, just look at it. Instead of the usual rock crawling through mountains and rough terrain, here you’re basically doing furniture crawling through what looks like the world’s most dangerous IKEA.
And honestly, the cartoony visual style also makes the whole thing even funnier. But still, there’s some proper technical driving going on, with careful throttle control and obstacle climbing.
Oh, and the dev is pretty active on social media, regularly sharing the game’s progress.
So yeah, definitely don’t sleep on this one.
#20. Red Dead Redemption 2

Alright, this one is obviously not a driving game, but honestly, it’s perfect if you just want to relax after a long day and slowly drive around somewhere beautiful.
You can grab a stagecoach or wagon and just cruise through forests, muddy trails, mountains, and small towns without really doing much else.
And obviously, there are no offroad trucks with thousands of horsepower. But you do get stagecoaches with a few real horsepower… and arguably a lot more soul.
So yeah, if you want the slowest offroading experience on this list, this one definitely counts.
#19. Offroad Truck Simulator: Heavy Duty Challenge

So, this technical offroading game gets overlooked quite a lot, and honestly, I kinda understand why.
I mean, it’s nowhere near as polished as SnowRunner or MudRunner, so if you’re a casual player, you’ll want to skip this one.
But if this specific niche scratches your brain the right way, there’s actually a lot to like here.
You’re basically crawling through brutal terrain using huge custom offroad trucks, dealing with rocks, steep climbs, and all the usual technical stuff.
So yeah, if heavy-duty rock crawling is your thing, you might wanna give this one a shot.
#18. Mad Max

- Platform: PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One
Look, this is obviously not a proper offroad driving game, but rather a post-apocalyptic open-world action game set in the Mad Max universe.
But as you can see, you’ll be driving your car most of the time, not just to travel across the massive wasteland, but also to ram, chase, and fight bad guys in some pretty chaotic car combat.
And of course, since everything is basically destroyed, offroading is pretty much unavoidable in this beautiful but broken world.
So yeah, this is one of those action games that also happens to have surprisingly great driving.
#17. MotorM4X: Offroad Extreme

Now, this game basically feels like the precursor to the MudRunner games, even though it came out about six years earlier and, as far as I can tell, isn’t actually related to it.
So yeah, the similarities are kinda crazy.
I mean, you’ve got 4WD, diff locks, rough terrain, and that same slow, careful style of driving where you’re constantly fighting for traction.
But the main difference is, instead of hauling lumber through Siberia, you’re driving SUVs through some extreme terrain.
So yeah, if you like old-school offroad sims, this one might be worth checking out.
#16. Chained Wheels

Okay, this is the funniest offroading game on this list, mainly because it’s designed so you and your friends will scream at each other.
And yeah, the premise is really simple: your car and your friend’s car are tied together with a chain, and both of you must complete each stage by driving together, by any means necessary.
And as expected, half the fun is blaming each other when one of you gets stuck or flips over.
So, if you want a funny co-op offroading game that can test your friendship, then this is the one.
#15. Off The Road Unleashed

Alright, this open-world offroading game feels like it was basically made for kids, or for parents who just want something simple to play with their kids.
The visuals are bright, colorful, and super easy on the eyes, while the missions, gameplay, and driving are all pretty straightforward too.
So yeah, if you’re looking for a fun and simple open-world offroading game that your kids can actually understand and enjoy, this is a really solid pick.

So, this is a pretty obscure technical offroading game with simple low-poly visuals that still deserves a spot here.

And yeah, this game definitely isn’t popular. It only has a few hundred reviews on Steam, so chances are you’ve probably never heard of it.
But if this kinda thing actually piques your interest, then check it out. I mean, it’s pretty cheap, so there’s not much to lose.
#13. Pacific Drive

Look, this is actually more of a survival game, but your car is basically the most important thing keeping you alive in this weird and dangerous world.
In this game, you’ll be driving through forests, rough terrain, and all kinds of strange environments while constantly maintaining and upgrading your car so you can push deeper into the world.
And yeah, the actual offroading mechanics aren’t super deep compared to something like MudRunner. But at the end of the day, it’s still a really good game that just happens to involve a lot of offroad driving.
#12. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

Now, if you don’t care about realism, this is still one of the most fun games for offroading and just exploring a huge open world.
I mean, back then, we used to play the hell out of this thing for hours every day, just driving around and discovering random stuff.
And half the time, we weren’t even using offroad cars. We’d take literally anything into the countryside and somehow make it work.
And yes, nowadays it’s mostly old guys replaying it for nostalgia and coping with life.
But yeah, for open-world driving, it still holds up.
#11. RoadCraft

Okay, this one is actually more of a construction game where you operate heavy machinery to rebuild infrastructure like roads, bridges, and other damaged areas.
And yeah, if the visuals and overall gameplay feel familiar, that’s because it’s from the same devs behind MudRunner and SnowRunner.
However, don’t expect to be driving across huge maps for hours, because most of the driving here happens within smaller work areas.
But still, you’re operating heavy vehicles, dealing with rough terrain, and driving offroad. So yeah, it still counts, and honestly, it does the whole thing really well.
#10. Grand Theft Auto VI

So, this game isn’t even out yet, but honestly, I’m pretty confident it’s gonna be great for open-world offroad driving.
I mean, driving around and exploring the world in whatever random vehicle you find has always been a huge part of what makes GTA games so fun in the first place.
And considering how massive Leonida looks, I’d be shocked if we couldn’t spend hours just ignoring the missions and driving around beaches, swamps, dirt roads, and whatever else we find.
So yeah, this is definitely a bet I’m more than willing to take.
#9. Off-Road Drive

Alright, this game is seriously impressive for its time.
The physics are surprisingly advanced, especially when it comes to mud, traction, and how the vehicles actually fight through rough terrain. And honestly, it can hang with much newer offroad games in that department.
However, this is definitely not an entry-level game. The controls are pretty complex, the driving can be unforgiving, and sometimes it feels like the game expects you to already know what you’re doing.
So yeah, if you’re after a more hardcore offroading sim experience, this old game is absolutely worth trying.
#8. Grand Theft Auto V

Look, until GTA 6 finally takes over, this is still basically the king of open-world games with a huge driving element.
And if you’re on PC, it’s gonna stay relevant even longer, especially because GTA 6 won’t be there right away.
And of course, the best part is obviously the mods. You can turn this game into almost anything, from realistic driving setups to completely different maps.
I mean, just look at this. You can literally drive around San Andreas inside GTA 5, can you imagine that?
So yeah, this game definitely isn’t dying anytime soon.
#7. Pure Rock Crawling

Now, this game is laser-focused on one thing: rock crawling.
And if that’s your favorite part of offroading, this is basically a dream come true.
In this game, you’re not dealing with logging roads, gravel roads, or long-distance hauling. Instead, it is built around slowly picking your line, climbing rocks, managing traction, and trying not to tip over.
And sure, it won’t match the satisfaction of doing this stuff in real life, but it’s pretty good.
Oh, and just keep in mind that this game is being developed by one person, so don’t expect something huge.
#6. The Crew Motorfest

Okay, this is the main rival to the Forza Horizon series when it comes to mainstream open-world racing games.
The big difference is that this one also gives you bikes, ATVs, and other vehicles to mess around with.
And yeah, offroading is definitely part of the open world, so you can just ignore the races and explore the island however you want.
The physics are pretty arcade-y though, so if you want realistic handling, this isn’t for you.
But if you just wanna cruise around a beautiful island, this one absolutely does the job.
#5. MudRunner
- Release Date: 2017
- Platform: PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Switch 2, Switch
So, this is basically the game that made this whole series popular in the first place.
And sure, SnowRunner is way bigger nowadays, but a lot of hardcore players still prefer this one because the ground deformation and mud physics feel more realistic and unforgiving.
I mean, SnowRunner was designed to be more accessible overall. So if you just want the smoother, more mainstream experience, go with SnowRunner.
But if you enjoy getting completely punished by mud and actually want the terrain to fight back, then yeah, this one is still the better choice.
#4. Forza Horizon 6

Alright, this is currently the hottest open-world racing game, finally taking over from Forza Horizon 5.
And just like before, you don’t even have to race if you don’t want to. You can just grab some car, truck, or SUV you definitely can’t afford in real life and explore this beautiful fictional version of Japan.
And yeah, Japan usually means JDM sports cars, but there’s still plenty of arcade-y offroading here too.
So yeah, grab a Jeep or SUV and head into the forests, rivers, and rougher parts of the map. It’s beautiful, I swear.
#3. Expeditions: A MudRunner Game
- Release Date: 2024
- Platform: PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Switch 2, Switch
Now, this one comes from the same family as MudRunner and SnowRunner, but it got mixed reactions because fans were basically expecting the next SnowRunner.
The thing is, this one is trying to do something different.
Instead of hauling cargo across huge maps, you’re focused more on offroad exploration using specialized vehicles, drones, winches, and other equipment.
And honestly, once you judge it for what it actually is, it’s a great game. I mean, the whole idea is that you’re doing scientific expeditions in harsh terrain.
So yeah, it’s not about delivery. It’s about exploration.
#2. BeamNG.drive
- Release Date: 2015
- Platform: PC, PS5
Look, this isn’t really a proper racing or driving game with a campaign, missions, and all that stuff.
Instead, it’s basically a giant sandbox where you can drive around, tweak almost everything, and install tons of mods to shape the game however you want.
Oh, and the soft-body damage system and vehicle physics are still some of the most realistic out there, so your car actually reacts properly to bumps, rocks, crashes, and rough terrain.
So yes, if you’re more obsessed with realistic vehicle behavior than structured gameplay, then this might still be the best option.
#1. SnowRunner

Okay, yeah, this one being number one probably isn’t gonna surprise anyone.
I mean, this game somehow turns getting stuck in mud into actual entertainment.
You’ll spend ages hauling cargo through snow, rivers, swamps, and roads that barely deserve to be called roads, constantly switching trucks, using winches, and trying not to roll everything down a mountain.
And somehow, every tiny bit of progress feels satisfying.
So yeah, it’s slow, brutal, and sometimes incredibly frustrating.
But if you want a game where the terrain itself is basically your main enemy, then this is still the king.
